Tips for a better search ranking in Second Life
From the Official Linden Lab blog, some tips for a better search ranking in Second Life.
I loved the post, since it’s very useful and well-written.
My comments on every point (italic is a cut the original):
Keywords Matter - “Think about which words Residents might type to find your listing or products and make sure to include these words in your listing“.
I add: think about the language, and you’ll add precious new words to it.
Phrases Matter - “pool, swim, board, dive” is not as good as “swimming pool, diving board”.
It’s very difficult to guess the right phrase. Spend your time on this one.
Grammar Tips - Avoid using “all caps” or non-traditional spellings in your listings.

Search is Smart - There is no need to include both “pool” and “pools”.
Search uses stemming. Good. Saves us time.
Cloaking Sucks – don’t deceive your potential customers by listing things that have nothing to do with what you actually sell.
I don’t agree: cloaking, today, is still a great move for your traffic (but, of course, a bad behaviour).
Traffic Matters… kind of – Traffic is a number for each parcel which is based on the amount of Residents who visited, and the time spent on that parcel out of their total time inworld that day.
Traffic is the most stupid thing Linden Lab ever invented… Bots, bots, bots everywhere, and camping. Bah.
Picks Matter - Having links in other Resident’s Picks tab counts, but creating bots/zombies stuffed with top picks doesn’t help.
It is true.
Branding is Important – If you haven’t already, think about creating a specific brand for your inworld business.
Err… we are talking about search, not marketing.
Advertising Works - Don’t underestimate the power of advertising, even in the virtual world!
I agree.
Classifieds - Classified ads are currently served alongside all relevant search results, sorted by amount paid.
You are just copying something that Google did years ago. Be creative.
Be Careful when Dividing Land Parcels – As previously reported, changing the boundaries of your land parcel can impact your ranking.
So damn true! What are you going to do to fix this? Yes, you HAVE to fix this!
