Mark Kingdon is the new Linden Lab CEO!

Linden Lab announced that Mark Kingdon (avatar: M Linden) is the new CEO of Linden Lab !
This is what Philip Rosedale says about him:
He is a person with the rare and unusual combination of business leadership, creativity, and passion for Second Life that we were looking for. In terms of history, he has a background in art, economics, and business. He has been in successful and highly regarded leadership roles at two companies that are bigger than Linden Lab: PricewaterhouseCoopers and Organic. He is a well-loved people leader who is fearless and can weather challenges and change.

Fashion, and rights

Fashion, and rights

Read this article about fashion, and how real world brands are behaving in Second Life, both looking at their initiatives, and the relations with other people (other fashion designers, mainly).
The problem, in my opinion, is the law.

Fashion is perfect for Second Life: fashion is not just about the product and the quality, it is mostly based on design, and exteriority. This means that many people are investing, or playing, with fashion design in Second Life.
Sometimes it happens that SL designers copy real world models and clothings. Sometimes it happens that they have frictions or lawsuits against fashion companies.

Some Second Life Statistics!

Some Second Life Statistics!

Seems Superb, Showing SL Statistics, Seriously, Shy Softy Sophomores!
Ok, no more “S” words, I swear!
Linden Lab just released some nice graphs, showing interesting Second Life statistics.
What I infer is:
1. The Gambling Ban didn’t affect the growth rate;
2. Land mass is rapidly growing (so why reduce price, morons?)

Land prices drop… a “fascist” behavior from Linden Lab

Land prices drop… a “fascist” behavior from Linden Lab

[important disclaimer note: the term "fascist", as in the geek/computer science world, means "doing something by authority, without respect for people's rights" or "doing something in an extreme way". It has no links with (and no reference to) real life fascisms of the 20th century]
It seems that Linden Lab will significantly cut land prices, to 1000 USD per island (now it’s at 1675 USD), at the end of April 2008.

I think this is a “fascist” move: it will cause serious economic damage to thousands of small “virtual” entepreneurs, which invested in Land and/or are in the Virtual Estate business.

Exit interview of Philip Rosedale

Happy Easter, dear readers!!
Just a quick note: you may be interested in reading the exit interview of Philip Rosedale, ex-CEO of Linden Lab.
Long, but worth reading.
I’ll get back to my fantastic italian dinner here… I love Easter, it has strong “religious” meanings (for believers, and for non-believers like me), but I also love it for the food… damn it’s good!!

Philip Rosedale steps down as CEO

Philip Rosedale steps down as CEO

As usually happens (see Google, for example), the founder needs an experienced CEO.
Philip Rosedale (below I’m at Linden Lab’s HQ in last july 2007) is stepping down as CEO of Linden Lab.

Here’s what he has to say about that:
We’ve decided to search for a new CEO, and I wanted to briefly talk to everyone here about the reasons for that decision.
I feel that the most important contributions I have made and will continue to make to Second Life are related to building both the product and the company through my direct contributions to vision, strategy, and design. As we grow, …read more

13 fresh video tutorials for Second Life

13 fresh video tutorials for Second Life

Great stuff from the Official Linden Blog: 13 new video tutorials for you.
I think that “documentation”, or other educational material (like tutorial videos), are one of the most important factors for the success of a technology (in this case, Second Life).
I always parallel it with Linux: when I was a Computer Science student in Perugia, I loved Linux because I had all the documentation needed for any task. Instead of spending hundreds of euros (well, hundreds of thousands of italian “Lire”) in Microsoft manuals, I had all this stuff for free (and lots of people on IRC ready to help …read more
