Peopling the virtual world

Peopling the virtual world

Ariella Furman makes real money in virtual worlds. How? Building presences in Second Life, using her film and media arts degree.
He was fascinated by Disney World when she went there for her first summer vacation as a college graduate, and when she got back to Ivyland, in Bucks County, she decided to invest her time in making machinimas (videos) in Second Life.
Here you can find a long and interesting interview to Ariella, which I suggest you to read.
In my view, those forms of art are perfectly meaningful in Second Life, and here art may be even less expensive and more …read more

Claudio Ricci, Assisi’s Mayor in First and Second Life

Claudio Ricci, Assisi’s Mayor in First and Second Life

Claudio Ricci, Assisi’s Mayor in both First and Second Life, will be at unAcademy, tonight at 9pm italian time (12pm PST).
The topic will be: relationship between citizens, and their representatives, with a focus on new tools and media, such as Second Life.

I’m proud to see that Claudio Ricci is becoming a benchmark for these kind of topics: he is a bright innovator, and when I first described him my activity in Second Life, he immediately understood its importance.
This is his baptism with Second Life, and another article that gives more details.
Good luck Claudio!

Happy birthday, Assisi Island!

Happy birthday, Assisi Island!

One year ago, Linden Lab activated my nice Assisi Island, on which we built the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi.
In one year, we had about a dozen outages, and some bandwidth issues, but in general the service has been quite good.
It seems AGES, but it’s just one year!

Virtual visit: Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi

Virtual visit: Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi

(you can watch the VIDEO OF THE VIRTUAL VISIT OF THE BASILICA)
Last friday, I had the pleasure to host Andrea Benassi (from Florence, Italy), and five students from New York City, in my “masterpiece”, the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi (here the SLURL, if you know what a SLURL is).
We were in company of Costanza, an italian official tour guide, which usually accompanies real people in the real Basilica, and this time had the opportunity and pleasure to do so in Second Life.

You can watch the VIDEO OF THE VIRTUAL VISIT OF THE BASILICA, and take a look at …read more

It’s a nice and warm way to “hide” the sad aspect of modern trash, and to …read more

Great first time for the Mayor of Assisi!

Great first time for the Mayor of Assisi!

As you know, yesterday, at 5pm italian time, the Mayor of Assisi, Claudio Ricci (avatar name: Claudioricci Republic), went “public”, for the first time, ready to listen an answer to his citizens, and to people from anywhere in the world.
The event has been a great success, with more than 30 avatars attending!

They spoke about the accessibility for handicapped people, about the “Mattonata” (a street with bricks that have names on them), about other initiatives in Second Life.
People were generally impressed by this move, which puts the mayor of Assisi closer to the people.
Next meeting: thursday, 22nd february, at 5pm italian …read more

Mayor of Assisi opens the doors in Second Life

Mayor of Assisi opens the doors in Second Life

Do you know Assisi? It’s a small roman/medieval town in middle Italy, right between Florence and Rome. Sat on a hill (“asisium” in latin means “sat down”), it was the home of Francesco Bernardone, who later in XIII century become Saint Francis of Assisi. They built a huge church and convent to celebrate him, the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi.
It’s my home town, and I love franciscan principles, even though I’m not a fervent catholic
The mayor of Assisi, Engineer Claudio Ricci, is a bright intellectual, with a taste and much knowledge on architecture, tourism and marketing.
