Private investigators souring Second Life
According to Reuters, private investigators are souring Second Life. Last weekend, Steven Rambam, from detective firmPallorium , gave a speech in New York about privacy and investigation techniques at the Hackers On Planet Earth conference. He used as an example one investigation he did in Second Life, trying to track down one avatar. His client, as a child, had been molested more than 20 years ago by his grade school teacher.
The client believes that pedophiles don’t really retire, so he wanted to catch that teacher and prevent him from molesting other people.
Rambam looked for this teacher, now an assistant principal, and scooped his Second Life avatar. His identity, it turned out that was a leather-loving woman. Nothing is bad in itself, but it is a sign that something may be worth investigating under the hood.
Rambam worked on the case and was finally able to catch up with that man.
This is a great example of how investigation can be applied in Second Life.
