The conference is just one among many at the Virtual Business Expo, taking place in Second Life (or “inworld”, as we use to say) for four days, with the following topics: virtual workplace, virtual education, virtual marketing, virtual commerce.
It seems a very interesting event, even if on the website they forgot to mention dates and times!

Ignore Second Life at your own peril!

Ignore Second Life at your own peril!

McKinsey & Company, a famous management consulting firm (wikipedia), is deeply involved in virtual worlds, and Second Life.
From a news source:
An unnamed senior consultant told the Times Online that companies “absolutely”  should be “experimenting in virtual worlds” to attract customers under 30 and were “ignoring them at their peril.”
I agree: virtual worlds, and social networks, will be HUGE, and companies can’t ignore them NOW. Investing in them only when they become the most important thing in the world will be too late.
What’s your take on this?

My virtual model

My virtual model

Fashion in Second Life is, and will be, a huge hit.
In Real Life, I give fashion some importance, but not too much. I never spend 300 euros on a pair of shoes, or a thousand and beyond for a suit.
However, there is an important fragment of the population, and thus of the market, that gives much importance and budget to fashion, and clothing.
This is the reason why fashion brands and industries heavily invested in advertising, in new media, and are now one of the main investors inside Second Life.
My Virtual Model is a concrete, and in my opinion very good, …read more

Online revenue up to one billion, says Disney

Online revenue up to one billion, says Disney

It’s not just virtual worlds, but Disney predicts to have one billion dollars in revenue this 2008 year, up from the 700 million for last 2007 year.
This is interesting, because it means that online technologies, and virtual worlds in particular, are definitively here to stay.
I also think that as soon as we’ll have more bandwidth worldwide, and better interfaces, the use of virtual worlds, and Second Life, will reach the masses, and become very profitable for companies offering virtual services.
What do you say? It’s a good, or a bad prediction?

Virtual jobs!

Virtual jobs!

You know my story, right? I will probably be hired by Amazon.com, thanks to a Luxembourg Virtual Job Fair to which I attended in last november. That was great!
Now there are plenty of virtual worlds job out there… check here for more details, maybe it’s your turn!
I see a great advantage for employers here. Less costs, and already a selection of some sort!
What’s your take on it?

Good news: realXtend joins OpenSim.
I really hope OpenSim will eventually become an open standard for virtual worlds… and I also hope that Linden Lab will face this dilemma once and for all.
