Tips for a better search ranking in Second Life

Tips for a better search ranking in Second Life

From the Official Linden Lab blog, some tips for a better search ranking in Second Life.
I loved the post, since it’s very useful and well-written.
My comments on every point (italic is a cut the original):
Keywords Matter – “Think about which words Residents might type to find your listing or products and make sure to include these words in your listing“.
I add: think about the language, and you’ll add precious new words to it.
Phrases Matter – “pool, swim, board, dive” is not as good as “swimming pool, diving board”.
It’s very difficult to guess the right phrase. Spend your time on this …read more

Second Life Server? Not Open, any soon

Second Life Server? Not Open, any soon

Bad news: it seems that the Second Life Server code will not become “open source” anytime soon.
This is bad, because without open source software, Second Life is going to lose ground.
Second Life is basically a PLATFORM: Linden Lab needs to focus on the added value ON TOP OF that Platform, not on the platform per se. Big players will slowly move to a closed-source platform, while they’d quickly embrace an open one.
Linden Lab needs to OPEN it. Period.
What do you think about it? Agree with me?

Autocad to Second Life

Autocad to Second Life

When I built the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, I desperately needed something to convert Autocad (a software to design buildings and floors) files and info into Second Life. I didn’t find anything useful.
This time, though, it seems that there IS something at the end of the tunnel.
Check out Wagner’s blog post about Autocad and Second Life.
This is the related video.

Site of the month: SL Entepreneur Magazine

SL Entepreneur Magazine seems an interesting website for wannabe Entepreneurs (or people that already do business in SL).
Lots of news and reports, freshy updates, and a cute interface. Good job, we’ll keep an eye on you folks!

Exit interview of Philip Rosedale

Exit interview of Philip Rosedale

Happy Easter, dear readers!!
Just a quick note: you may be interested in reading the exit interview of Philip Rosedale, ex-CEO of Linden Lab.
Long, but worth reading.
I’ll get back to my fantastic italian dinner here… I love Easter, it has strong “religious” meanings (for believers, and for non-believers like me), but I also love it for the food… damn it’s good!!

Mayor of Assisi, again in Second Life

Mayor of Assisi, again in Second Life

The Mayor of Assisi, Claudio Ricci (avatar name: ClaudioRicci Republic), came again in Second Life few hours ago. Every two thursdays (next one will be 3rd april), at 5pm CET (8am PST), for one hour, the Mayor will welcome people in Assisi and answer their questions.
Here some screeshots (if you see, there is a small man in the middle: his avatar name was SilvioBerlusconi something… he was playing as the ex-prime minister of Italy and entepreneur Mr. Berlusconi, with audio files of his real voice. Cool!).

Remotely control Second Life with Yugma

Remotely control Second Life with Yugma

Yugma allows you to control another person’s computer.
This means that you can use it to control Second Life, too (with a very bad frame rate, though).
I agree with Wagner, this thing can be very useful for learning purposes.
This is something that Second Life desperately need: in year 2008, after almost 15 years of internet, you still have people that aren’t able to browse or email. Think of how much time you’ll need to have the world understand how to use Second Life… Geological Eras!!

My virtual model

My virtual model

Fashion in Second Life is, and will be, a huge hit.
In Real Life, I give fashion some importance, but not too much. I never spend 300 euros on a pair of shoes, or a thousand and beyond for a suit.
However, there is an important fragment of the population, and thus of the market, that gives much importance and budget to fashion, and clothing.
This is the reason why fashion brands and industries heavily invested in advertising, in new media, and are now one of the main investors inside Second Life.
My Virtual Model is a concrete, and in my opinion very good, …read more
