Metaverse U Conference

Metaverse U Conference

On 16th and 17 february 2008, Stanford will host the Metaverse U Conference.
As you know, I live in Italy, so there’s no chance to come in the valley and attend (what a pity, I miss California so much!), anyway there will be freely available videos of the conference.
I’ll try to comment after seeing them… in the meanwhile, if you’re around, I’m sure it’s worth the time! GO!

Great first time for the Mayor of Assisi!

Great first time for the Mayor of Assisi!

As you know, yesterday, at 5pm italian time, the Mayor of Assisi, Claudio Ricci (avatar name: Claudioricci Republic), went “public”, for the first time, ready to listen an answer to his citizens, and to people from anywhere in the world.
The event has been a great success, with more than 30 avatars attending!

They spoke about the accessibility for handicapped people, about the “Mattonata” (a street with bricks that have names on them), about other initiatives in Second Life.
People were generally impressed by this move, which puts the mayor of Assisi closer to the people.
Next meeting: thursday, 22nd february, at 5pm italian …read more

The mayor of Assisi is waiting for you!

The mayor of Assisi is waiting for you!

Tomorrow, 7th february, at 5pm italian time (8am in California, 11am in New York), the mayor of Assisi will be connected in Second Life, and be available to answer any question (in english and italian) about Assisi. ANYTHING!
I suggest you to attend!

This is the SLURL of the place (you can find it under “assisi” in the search box too).

Virtual cheating!

Virtual cheating!

Cheating: everyone knows about it… I’ve been cheated at least once, and it hurts a lot!
The BBC has an interesting “programme” about cheating in Second Life: part I, part II, part III, part IV on youtube.

I’d prefer to avoid repeating what has been said in the videos, and give you my take on that.
Most emotions ultimately reach our psycological ego, rather than just our physical surface.
If you allow me to go to an extreme for a moment, think to rape, versus making love: comparable “physical” sensations, completely different psychological outcomes. That’s probably why victims of rape must face a long …read more

Chiropractic students: do they need a Second Life?

Chiropractic students: do they need a Second Life?

Interestingly, not everyone seems interested in Second Life.
It quite always depends on a “feedback” factor: how much I’m going to spend (in terms of money and/or time), and see it in return?
This is why I’ll try to answer to a rather obvious question: do chiropratic students need a Second Life?
In short… It depends.
You can’t properly simulate a real environment, or if you manage to do so, you surely spend too much doing it. This means that such niche can benefit from Second Life only from one point of view: marketing.
If you use Second Life to:
- Show something about Chiropractice;
- Show …read more
