Mayor of Assisi in Second Life: Artistic Garbage Bins

Mayor of Assisi in Second Life: Artistic Garbage Bins

Today, Thursday the 21st of February, at 5pm italian time (CET), or as you prefer 9am PST, the Mayor of Assisi will come in Second Life for his second virtual meeting with his electors (after the first successful one), and curious people from around the world.
The place is Virtual Assisi.
The topic is ARTISTIC GARBAGE BINS.

In Real Life, in fact, the mayor, Engineer Claudio Ricci, is launching an initiative to decorate every garbage bin in Assisi with artistic paintings, like the one you can see above.
It’s a nice and warm way to “hide” the sad aspect of modern trash, and to …read more

Watch this: IBM Second Life AD

Watch this: IBM Second Life AD

I couldn’t believe it, but this is the quintessential of any virtual world, for businesses. You have to watch it.
And after that, you have to tell me what you think of it.

I personally think that this is EARLY STAGE: real money (actual money) will come, sooner or later, and those who start first will have a better chance.

Virtual Fashion Summit, 19-22 june, Minneapolis

Virtual Fashion Summit, 19-22 june, Minneapolis

I told you about the Virtual Worlds Conference, so I can’t miss to tell you about the upcoming Virtual Fashion Summit, on 19-22 june 2008 in Minneapolis (Minnesota) (source).
To be honest:
1. The Virtual Fashion website is ugly, I hope they’ll get it fixed soon.
2. I don’t care too much about fashion, in general, but I see that fashion will be one of the driving economic forces behind virtual worlds.
Fashion, at the source, is all about showing something better than we are; isn’t it perfect for a virtual world?

Virtual Worlds Conference: New York, 3-4 april 2008

Virtual Worlds Conference: New York, 3-4 april 2008

The upcoming Virtual Worlds 2008 Conference will take place in New York on 3-4 april 2008.
The cost is like any other conference (early registration ends feb 29th, and you’ll save 700 $), and you’ll meet some mayor players in virtual worlds (we’re still missing Philip Rosedale there… what’s up?)

Such kind of conferences are great for those who want to grasp the ideas and business opportunities of virtual worlds, very quickly. Think about it.
I’ll probably not be able to attend, due to previous arrangements.
Will you go? Yes, no? Why?

Fiat auto in Second Life… Not italian, but brazilian

Fiat auto in Second Life… Not italian, but brazilian

Couldn’t believe it: Fiat auto, the prestigious italian car brand from Turin, has a Second Life presence. A nice one.
Vint Falken went there, and shoot some machinima videos to show us some stuff.
Unluckily, this is not something from Fiat Auto ITALY, it’s from the Brazilian branch of the company. How sad.
Now, please: tell me if you EVER met something spectacular, well-built, something useful, from italian guys (apart from my lovely Basilica of Saint Francis, of course). Please, list something. I’d like to believe that there’s still hope in this country. Please.

Second Life economy in recession?

Second Life economy in recession?

This is what the Second Life Herald is claiming: Second Life Economy is in recession.
I agree, and also agree that PMLF (Positive Monthly Linden Flow) is one of the best tool to determine trends for a virtual economy.
There is, however, the “bank ban” factor to take into account; it simply means that previous indicators were “inflated” by bank operations. I think the economy is just doing good.
Well, let’s hope those indicators will recover soon anyway!
In the meanwhile, I’ll have a well-deserved weekend home

Ajaxlife: a Second Life web-based interface

Ajaxlife: a Second Life web-based interface

The always precious James writes about Ajaxlife, a service that I appreciated long ago: it is a web-based interface for Second Life (here the official website of AjaxLife).

She launched a survey to ask opinions about “what to add” to Ajaxlife. I suggest you to take few minutes of your precious time and help her.
Besides: do you think it’s a useful service, or not?

Metaversical Valentine’s Day

Metaversical Valentine’s Day

I quite hate Valentine’s Day, like in general any recurrence (I want to say “I love you” when I, and NOT the calendar, feel to).
However, people in general love Valentine’s Day, and I fully respect this point of view.
Second Life, of course, has lots of things going on for Valentine’s Day: read the post on the official Linden Blog for more details.

Recruiters in Second Life

Recruiters in Second Life

Recruiters seem to be really interested in Second Life, as some virtual job fair have shown in the past.
My take is that this is the beginning of a new era: there will be, in the future, the perfect reproduction of someone, talking to the perfect reproduction of a recruiter. It will be a great moment!
What do you think about virtual recruiting? Do you see a future in it? Are you frightened by it? Do you like it?
