World Economic Forum in Second Life, with great interviews!

World Economic Forum in Second Life, with great interviews!

Reuters announced some details about the upcoming World Economic Forum event (to take place in real Davos, Switzerland).
I’m more than happy to see that Philip Rosedale (Linden Lab’s founder), Tim O’Reilly, Mitch Kapor and Robert Scoble will be interviewed Inworld (this means: in Second Life), on 23rd and 24th january.
GREAT!
Don’t miss this chance to ask them YOUR questions!
It is interesting that, in one way or another, I “met” with all those guys:
- Robert Scoble was asking for some connections with Mark Shuttleworth (the founder of Ubuntu, I know him too and met in person in July 2007 in Portland, …read more

Updated 1.18.6 RC Viewer!

Keep attention, in the next few days the new version of Second Life Viewer will be available; in the meantime, the Release Candidate (RC) has been released, check it out at the official Second Life blog.
Keep in mind that:
“The new login UI and server infrastructure is taking longer to stabilize than anticipated. In order to keep releases coming, we have decided to revert back to our old login code/system“.
We hope they’ll fix it ASAP!

Philantrophy in Second Life? Of course!

Philantrophy in Second Life? Of course!

MSNBC reports two stories about Philanthropy in Second Life: one about Charities in Second Life, and one interview to Anshe Chung, which donated SIMs to the Nonprofit Commons.
You can read the two articles to get an idea.
My idea is that every form of social help just need tools to be implemented. The web, and Second Life, are great tools to connect people and allow them to share a common goal.
The more information you have, the more transparent you are, the more people will trust your efforts and donate.

Second Style

Second Style

Fashion is certainly one of the most promising sector in Second Life, for many reasons: it’s easy to create virtual skins and clothes, promote virtual catwalks, create virtual brand.

Second Style is a virtual magazine about style and fashion in Second Life, and it’s well worth reading. The more avatars appear like real people, the more the virtual experience is valuable. Fashion will lead the way!

Creating Customer Evangelists in Second Life

Creating Customer Evangelists in Second Life

This book (suggested by Jeff) is a great reading: Creating Customer Evangelists.
(you can also visit the book’s website at: http://www.creatingcustomerevangelists.com)
This is a picture of the two authors, Ben McConnell and Jackie Huba, together with Guy Kawasaki, one of the best known evangelists, and one of the main factors behind Apple’s success:

I’ve exchanged some thoughtful emails with Guy, and with Jeff.
I was really curious about all this “hype” about “evangelism”.
Now that I’ve almost finished reading it (together with the excellent Empire of Wealth and Beyond Fear), I can say for sure that EVANGELISM fits perfectly into SECOND LIFE.
I don’t want to …read more

Trusted banks in Second Life

Trusted banks in Second Life

The phenomenon was going to become a problem, sooner or later: Linden Lab, luckily, decided that ONLY “REAL” BANKS can operate as Banks in Second Life (they say that the recent collapse of Ginko Financial was one of the main reason they started to think about it).
The statement is:
“As of January 22, 2008, it will be prohibited to offer interest or any direct return on an investment (whether in L$ or other currency) from any object, such as an ATM, located in Second Life, without proof of an applicable government registration statement or financial institution charter. We’re implementing this policy …read more
