This is the last post for Second Life pros! For various reason, B5Media and I decided not to continue to publish this blog.

Linden scripting for… newbies!

Linden scripting for… newbies!

Wow, this is great: a tool from MIT to help developers learn how to create things and let them interact in Second Life, thank to numerous contributors.
The tool, Scratch4SL, is very easy to use even without any programming skill, and I’m sure that this will be loved by Second Life enthusiasts that happen to have a non-computer science degree, and so can’t or doesn’t want to mess with Linden Scripting Language before being able to DO something.
Good job! I’m sure this will bring many more content creators in Second Life!

BMW to leave Second Life

BMW to leave Second Life

Ahi, ahi: this is not a very good sign after all.
BMW, one of the most prestigious car manufacturers, will leave Second Life, according to Achim Muellers, head of Brand Relations for BMW.
As for ING and AOL, BMW seems convinced that there is no advantage in investing money marketing their products in Second Life.
I would say… YET! But I can understand them: Second Life is so young, compared to where it will eventually arrive, that most people don’t really take it too seriously.
What a pity!

Married, or cheater? They want you!

Violet Bloue, a technology (and sex) blogger, is writing a book on online relationships. Of course, she wants the inside scoop from Second Lifers.
As you may know, Second Life has been a great inspiration for sex-oriented literature since the very beginning, culminated in Dan Savage’s debate on Second Life sex and adultery (and his view is: it is NOT adultery).
Violet Blue is going to rewrite this topic from the ground up, and of course she wants to know from YOU.
If you want to be interviewed, email her at “violet at tinynibbles dot com”.

His first two months at Linden Lab

His first two months at Linden Lab

First two months of Second Life’s CEO at Linden Lab.
I’ve been with Linden Lab for two months and each day has surfaced something interesting — and often quite unexpected. So, what have I seen? Read on.
Second Life has evolved dramatically but perception has not kept up with reality in five important ways:
1. Second Life users are more mainstream than many assume. It’s not just tech-savvy early adopters or gamers. It’s a much broader cross-section of society with a median age in the early 30’s and nearly half the time spent in world is by women.
2. The diversity of use …read more

Private investigators souring Second Life

Private investigators souring Second Life

According to Reuters, private investigators are souring Second Life. Last weekend, Steven Rambam, from detective firmPallorium , gave a speech in New York about privacy and investigation techniques at the Hackers On Planet Earth conference. He used as an example one investigation he did in Second Life, trying to track down one avatar. His client, as a child, had been molested more than 20 years ago by his grade school teacher.
The client believes that pedophiles don’t really retire, so he wanted to catch that teacher and prevent him from molesting other people.
Rambam looked for this teacher, now an assistant principal, and …read more
