Real Estate, and Second Estate

Real Estate, and Second Estate

Most of you are certainly familiar with real estate, and aware that it’s a business field in which good salesmen get rich quickly, and foolish proprietors can lose or gain huge amounts of money based on their choices (price, real estate agent, etc).
Second Life is no different than that, despite it’s clearly a platform that allows novell forms of transactions and, therefore, of quarrelling.
It’s the case of Mark Bragg, a lawyer that used a dirty (but maybe legal) trick to win a virtual land (called SIM, short for Simulation) auction for a very low price; he basically hacked the URL …read more

Sun educates in virtual worlds: MPK20

Sun educates in virtual worlds: MPK20

I agree with many others: Second Life is good, but it could be better when you talk about education and e-learning (or v-learning, short for Virtual Learning).
Sun Microsystems, yes that big company that you surely know because you know Java and OpenOffice, is building a virtual environment for online education, based on Project Darkstar on the server, called Sun MPK20 Virtual Workplace environment.

This is a great leap forward, compared to what Second Life has to offer, and can also ensure that offering online education is not too time-consuming (like SL, most of the times).
We’ll wait and see if MPK20 will …read more

Huge Virtual Job fair for Luxembourg!

Huge Virtual Job fair for Luxembourg!

Working worlds is the first Luxembourg virtual job fair in Second Life, taking place from 28th november in Second Life.
More than 900 people already registered for the event, and thousands more are ready to roll in.

This is great news, because job interviews are a great way to show how Second Life can leverage a business.
My suggestion? Register and attend, even if you’re not really interested in working in Real Luxembourg. I think the experience is worth the effort.

Dilbert creator in Second Life

Dilbert creator in Second Life

Great article of Mitch Wagner about the “appearance” of Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, in Second Life.
First, I must admit that I’m a big, big, big, BIG fan of Scott and of course of his masterpiece creation, Dilbert.
Second, Mitch Wagner is great because he outlines the important facts and things about Scott’s appearance.
I’d like only to summarize what I consider essential, and ask you to read the full article for details, or read what Scott himself has to say and see the related video on youtube.

So, most important thing is:
“You can still get real-world publicity for virtual worlds marketing …read more

Fashion Business, an example

Fashion Business, an example

Fashion is one of the most promising businesses in Second Life, and today I suggest you to visit Natalia’s website. This is a post about Hairstyles, something that, according to an undisclosed source of mine, can reach thousands of dollars A DAY of transactions. Think about it, thousands of dollars for a Hairstyle!

No surprise that fashion brands are going after Second Life, like Armani.

How much is Second Life worth?

How much is Second Life worth?

This is a BIG, BIG question. And my early guess is wrong.
According to TechCrunch, Catamount Ventures sold 10% of Linden Lab stakes for something around HALF A BILLION DOLLARS.
This means that Second Life (together with Linden Lab) could be valued at 5 billions USD.
I think this is a bit too overpriced, but I’m sure that 2-3 billions are a solid real value for it.
Consider users (10 millions subscribers, but about 1,5 million active users), the value of objects created in Second Life, the hype, the investments around it. Yes, it’s BILLIONS OF DOLLARS anyway.

Viral Marketing in Second Life

Viral Marketing in Second Life

I completely agree with this article about how to virally market a product in Second Life.
Brief: if you want people to virally talk about your new OnRez Viewer, give it for free to those who participate to CSI:NY in Second Life.
Viral Marketing works in Second Life too!! Very, very good news my friends!
