Trip to Berlin (Real Life)

Trip to Berlin (Real Life)

I’m going to Berlin for a short trip, until 10th december. This is a nice picture of Alexander Platz, found here:

In the next days you’ll find some “posthumous” posts, I’ll probably not be able to comment (I sometimes need few days without Internet, or with very low connection time), but I hope you’ll enjoy the posts.
See you soon my friends!

Social Network in Second Life: SL Scout!

Social Network in Second Life: SL Scout!

This is an interesting website, a social network for Second Life: it’s called SLScout.com and it has forums, galleries, videos and other things.
To promote the website, they launched a contest: users can post their photos, and rate someone else’s pics, and the best picture will win 25,000 L$ (about 90 USD). I think it’s a poor prize, but better than nothing.
This one is a nice picture:

My two cents: Social Networking is an exploding phenomenon, parallel to the fact that our lives, and our time, are shifting towards electronic communications more than ever.
This means that Second Life, and virtual worlds in …read more

A new Second Life (server) Architecture

A new Second Life (server) Architecture

This presentation is amazing, and it shows a proposal for a new “distributed computing” architecture for Second Life.
Worth a look!

Is a Virtual Job Fair worth it?

Is a Virtual Job Fair worth it?

So, few days after my chat with Amazon recruiting team, I have one consideration about a Virtual Job Fair, to answer the question “Is it worth it?”
This case is not common, because, at the end of the chat, I suggested to visit Assisi, my biggest creation in Second Life. This is an advantage, since she’ll be able to see that I’m very good in Second Life stuff.
Apart from this, the interview went generally better than the canonical “phone” interview, she had the impression to talk with a real guy, and I was also dressed very well, so some good points …read more

Luxembourg is cool, and Amazon too!

Luxembourg is cool, and Amazon too!

I’ve been at the Virtual Job Fair for Luxembourg jobs, and not surprisingly, I’ve found a nice connection for an open position at Amazon! Great! I knew it was good to go!
And, as you see, my avatar is now a good one!

My avatar? Simone Brunozzi, of course!!

My avatar? Simone Brunozzi, of course!!

For three super-secret reasons, I was able to get an avatar with MY OWN REAL NAME, that is Simone Brunozzi! Awesome! Just in time for the virtual Job Fair in Luxembourg, starting tomorrow!
This is a picture of myself in the SIM of Assisi.

I know, it’s just the basic male avatar, I need to work on it!
Still, it’s awesome!
If you are famous, if you are holding an important event, or if your organization is working in Second Life and doing huge things, or for other misterious reasons, you can get a VANITY NAME too.
Warning: it’s long, and difficult, and costs 100 …read more

Crash, crash, crash, Second Crashes

Crash, crash, crash, Second Crashes

I’m suprised: despite many efforts, crashes, and other similar problems, are still too heavily affecting the virtual world of Second Life.
Read this interesting and well informed article about crashes in Second Life.

Sorry, Linden, but this is not the way out. This is the way down. Fix it.

A network value in Second Life, why not?

A network value in Second Life, why not?

There is this new and nice website called MyNetworkValue.com, which gives you in few minutes an evaluation of the value of your network.
It is an interesting service, and it helps thinking about the value of relationships, often underestimated (compared to bare technical skills, for example).

It is also interesting to see that in the test there is no mention to network presence, like:
- Linkedin profile;
- Xing profile;
- Google results for your name (it’s easy for me (Simone Brunozzi), less easy for people with common names)
- phone numbers on your cell phone;
- emails in your address book.
- Second Life friends and groups.

Popular places in Second Life: b.places!

Popular places in Second Life: b.places!

I’ve found this interesting website, www.b.places.com, which lists some of the most interesting SIMs in Second Life.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of similar sites out there, but this one is great because it’s somewhat business oriented, it’s simple and clean, it’s well presented, and the list actually WORKS.
The only thing, I’m surprised they didn’t list the wonderful Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Second Life, that remains, in the opinion of many visitors, one of the most wonderful reproduction of real buildings in Second Life.
