Social Network in Second Life: SL Scout!

This is an interesting website, a social network for Second Life: it’s called SLScout.com and it has forums, galleries, videos and other things.
To promote the website, they launched a contest: users can post their photos, and rate someone else’s pics, and the best picture will win 25,000 L$ (about 90 USD). I think it’s a poor prize, but better than nothing.
This one is a nice picture:

My two cents: Social Networking is an exploding phenomenon, parallel to the fact that our lives, and our time, are shifting towards electronic communications more than ever.
This means that Second Life, and virtual worlds in general, will soon attract huge investments, and so generate huge traffic. In a sense, Second Life is itself a social networking platform, with an added “business” side.

I hope that people will be able to avoid alienation, and use the “medium” as a balanced tool to improve their life, and possibly their business.
I also hope that the common opinion on new media (like Internet, or like a fraction of it such as Second Life) will not confuse the “medium” with the “problem” (or the “solution”).
To be clearer: nuclear energy is a great invention, while the nuclear bomb is a terribly bad interpretation of it.

What do you think about that? Do you think that there is a clear distinction between a tool (computer, internet, Second Life) and the way we use it, or that a tool influences bad behaviours? This is a million dollar question! Sorry that I don’t have the budget to cash out the right one :-)

Bad behavior comes from a bad person. Whether a tool is good or bad, a bad person will use a tool badly. Laws, for example, make for an orderly society. Bad persons misuse Laws (running traffic lights, tax evasion, etc). When a bad person misuses laws, things go badly for everybody, i.e., more laws to keep / catch bad persons & more red tape / trouble for good persons.
