Sex and Second Life. My two cents.

Sex, sex, sex, the big engine of business, together with drugs and oil.
Of course, I’m talking about the real world, but things are not so different in the world of Second Life.
We can’t have REAL drugs in Second Life (yet), we can’t be interested in virtual oil (yet), but rest assured that sex is the main and big business in Second Life, and in any emerging virtual world.

I took inspiration from this post about sex clothing and tools for “ponygirls”, a strange “niche” of the sex market.

First reaction was: aww, this sounds like strange and rotten sex material.

Ok, second reaction: what is sex from a business point of view (if you don’t directly cash it in)?
I think that sex in Second Life, even the strangest and more uncommon forms of sex behaviours and materials, IS very good for any business, because:

A) People interested in that kind of sex become Second Life users;
B) Some businesses get money, and they probably try to invest it again in Second Life, thus generating a high demand for skilled people;
C) If the sex business hires skilled people, there is a shortage of good technician, and so SL wages go up steadily, allowing it to become an interesting source of income;
D) When there is a decent wage in something, lots of people come, working or entepreneuring, and this effect cumulates with the increased number of users.

If, for instance, Linden Lab decides to ban sex from Second Life, I swear you that Second Life is dead that very same day.

We like it or not, bu we have to deal with any human “deviation” from the norm, both in Second Life and in Real Life; I personally don’t like “too eccentric” things, but I usually try to respect everyone, just because many normal people have usually one or more of such eccentric deviation. As long as it doesn’t hurt anybody, I generally don’t interfere with it.

Remember that Galileo Galilei, the father of the Scientific revolution and the Law of Gravitation (not Newton, but Galilei, dear english friends), was considered “deviated”, and excomunicated by the roman church. After all, deviation can be a positive, and even a revolutionary thing.

    Holy words!
    I agree with you… hope other Galileis will found their way to the world!
