Face the reality, Electric Sheep

Face the reality, Electric Sheep

I really like Electric Sheep, an innovative and dynamic company, probably the biggest company working on Second Life (apart from Linden Lab, of course).
Electric Sheep is a thermometer of what’s going on in the metaverse, and there are really bad news: remember that CSI:NY had a show in which Second Life was involved?
Well, Electric Sheep decided to shrink the SIMs from 440 to 32, thus reducing their “effort” to barely 7% of the initial investment.
This well means that involving people in Second Life isn’t easy, and that we still need an easier interface and easier everything, or the mass will …read more

CNN, here it comes!

CNN, here it comes!

Yes, my dears: CNN is COMING!
This is an important event: when you have someone “professional” talking about Second Life, soon the whole thing gets more professional than before.
This is very good news for businesses working in Second Life. Enjoy the show!

RMS Titanic, sailing again!

RMS Titanic, sailing again!

Of course, I’m sure you remember the RMS (Royal Mail Ship) Titanic, one of the most impressive ships of the 20th century, sadly famous because it sank just few days after its launch.
The Titanic is now open to the public in Second Life! There are residential spaces available for lease, or retail.

The glorious ship is located at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Volcano Cay/172, 167, 23, but you can also see some cool videos here.

Second Life appears on CSI New York

Second Life appears on CSI New York

Are you a fan of CSI? Personally I watch a couple of episodes a month, but I like it quite a lot
On October 24th, the episode of CSI New York (did you know that there are CSI Miami and CSI Las Vegas? I didn’t!!) will unveil a new Second Life viewer, made by Electric Sheep company, one of the most important companies working on Second Life.
The main features:

Redesigned interface to improve the user’s experience
Built-in search, shopping, and virtual currency purchasing services from the OnRez software suite
Improved location navigation allowing users to easily ‘jump back and forth’ among Second …read more

Helping Burma in Second Life

Helping Burma in Second Life

It’s just symbolic, but Second Life avatars helped a lot in raising the attention of media and people about it. What is “it” ?
I’m talking about the “Burma” question, of course, and if you were on a desert island with Jessica Biel in the last four weeks, you can read more infos on the wikipedia page about the Burma crisis, renamed Saffron Revolution.
Here, for example, a picture I’ve taken in the Assisi SIM, while we (I’m the guy on the wooden box) were protesting against the action of Burma government.

This is an interesting example of democratic and political participation. I …read more

Italian Democratics show up in Second Life

Italian Democratics show up in Second Life

Welcome back, my fellow readers!
I’m sure you’re not familiar with italian politics, are you?
Briefly, there is a new democratic party (a REAL one, I mean!) that will call internal elections on 14th october (sunday).
A small group, ItalianiEuropei, will host a related event in Second Life (beware, it’s a SLURL), on 13th october.
SL Italians will get a chance to say something about the newly-formed democratic party.
I think that SL is not mature and diffused enough to be a real political platform, but this is a warm start. More info as soon as I have ‘em
I know, I know, in …read more

top SL website: the Avastar

top SL website: the Avastar

The Avastar is probably the most famous online magazine about Second Life (note the name: Avatar + Star = Avastar).
It’s sort of a “light” magazine, without too many technical articles, and usually with short pieces rather than long “poems”.

I like it because it helps in getting the right news from Second Life world in minutes.
I suggest you to read it often!

Second Life a tool to get a real job

Second Life a tool to get a real job

Sometimes it’s odd, isn’t it? Second Life, a VIRTUAL world, is used to get a REAL job.
How it comes?
Companies are increasingly starting to use Second Life for online interviews. Better for you to start learning Second Life well, my (unemployed) friend!

WIRED: Making money in Second Life

WIRED: Making money in Second Life

WIRED is not exactly my favorite newspaper, but… this could be a nice hint for you: seven “slideshows” on how to make money in Second Life. Seven “rough” examples that can give you some inspiration, at least

How to earn some little money in SL, part 3

Rule #3: focus on businesses that can take immediate advantage from SL.
I’ll take inspiration from a real life scenario.
I’m the owner of a place in Second Life, the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. Of course, I believe all of you already know Saint Francis of Assisi, or are aware that in Assisi (my birth place) we have a wonderful Basilica of Saint Francis.
Of course, running this place …read more
